Legend has it that a mermaid called Partenope had picked the Gulf of Naples as her home and from there she sang with a melodious and sweet voice. The people, to express their gratitude towards her, brought her seven presents: flour, a symbol of wealth; ricotta, a symbol of abundance; eggs, a symbol of reproduction; wheat cooked in milk, a symbol of the fusion of the vegetable and animal kingdom; orange blossom, a tribute to all people; and finally sugar, to celebrate its sweetness. The mermaid then combined all these ingredients together, creating the first pastiera Napoletana.
Our Executive Pastry Chef Armando Palmieri is from Napoli and who better to meticulously craft the traditional pastiera Napoletana for Easter.
