Sud Forno Weekend Italiano Meal (March 2021)

We are back this week with a new box from Sud Forno's Executive Chef Giovanna Alonzi! This week Giovanna has been dreaming of Italy (haven't we all...) and thought why not curate a few bits and pieces of culinary tradition from all over Italy. From gnocchi alla Sorrentina directly from the Amalfi Coast to schiacciata Toscana from the beautiful countryside of Tuscany, this week's meal box takes us on a gastronomical getaway from region to region. In addition, Giovanna made sure to make it as easy as possible for you to enjoy your meal this weekend with minimal prep and cooking so sit back and relax and enjoy some of the undiscovered wonders of Italian cuisine. So easy in fact that Giovanna has you covered for breakfast the next morning with Spaccio's schiacciata Toscana (be sure to enjoy it with some Nutella and a cappuccino!) 

Like always we'll have fresh Sud Forno bread made by our Head Baker Luca Rotatori and we'll end the meal off with mini dolcetti from our Executive Pastry Chef Armando Palmieri.

Included in the box:

Pane Integrale: manitaly flour, integrale (whole wheat flour), mother yeast, water, malt, salt

Antipasto Formaggio e Prosciutto: tomino di bufala (buffalo milk), prosciutto di Parma,  carciofi grigliati (artichokes, sunflower oil, vinegar, salt, garlic, parsley, chili)

Gnocchi alla Sorrentina: gnocchi (potato, flour, semolina, eggs, salt & pepper, nutmeg), pomodoro (onion, tomato, EVOO, basil, & pepper), fior di latte, parmigiano, basil

Insalatina di Cavolo e Finocchio: kale, radicchio, fennel, radish, watermelon radish, heirloom carrots, orange, balsamic vinaigrette

Dolcetti: mini caprese (butter, almond flour, cocoa powder, icing sugar, baking powder, sugar, egg, dark chocolate, honey, corn starch), tartellette alla Nutella (butter, eggs, flour, almond flour, cocoa powder, bourbon vanilla, Nutella, raspberry, mirror glaze)

Schiacciata Toscana: butter, flour, yeast, sugar, EVOO, anise, honey, marsala, cinnamon, raisins


Antipasto Formaggio e Prosciutto: Preheat a pan to medium heat. Add a tsp of EVOO and sear the tomino for 2-3 minutes on each side. Serve hot with prosciutto and artichokes on the side.

Gnocchi alla Sorrentina: Preheat oven to 400F. Remove the plastic bag from the gnocchi alla sorrentina and bake in their bamboo container for 12-14 minutes until hot.

Insalatina di Cavolo e Finocchio: Toss the salad with its dressing and serve.

Dolcette and Schiacciata Toscana: Ready to serve.




2019 'Ischia Bianco' DOC, Casa d'Ambra, Campania: Straw yellow, this aromatic white shows a nose of honeysuckle, acacia and sea air followed by a dry, mineral palate alongside yellow apple, pear and sweet corn. Unique yet accessible; a refreshing blend from the steep terraces of Ischia.

2018 'Gricos' Aglianico Del Vulture DOC, Grifalco, Basilicata: Ruby red with earthy aromas and all the charm of the Aglianico grape: mineral notes with floral hints and red berry fruit. Fresh and fruity on the palate; a good acidity lengthens the deep, well-defined finish.

Franciacorta Brut DOCG, Contadi Castaldi, Lombardia: Pale yellow in colour with a fine clarity, this sparkling brut is steady and persistent. The nose is fresh with floral notes, lime, and green pepper, while on the palate the wine is full bodied yet crisp with a lingering finish.

Local Delivery

We now deliver our meal boxes with Trexity! Enter your postal code when you checkout to see if you are eligible for local delivery (20km radius from Spaccio at 22 Sackville Street). Deliveries arrive between 12pm-8pm. For questions about your delivery, please contact Spaccio directly at (416) 368-4248. You will receive same day delivery if you order before 3pm. Orders placed after 3pm will arrive next day. Deliveries with Trexity can be tracked from the moment your order is being prepared up until you receive your order. 

Store Pickup

Store pickup for this item is available at Sud Forno Queen (716 Queen St. W.) or at Spaccio (22 Sackville St.) on Friday the 26th Saturday the 27th or Sunday the 28th (Spaccio only). Choose your pickup date and time on the checkout page.
