Few drinks have a story as charming and unintentional as the Spritz. In the late 1800s, when northern Italy was under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austrian soldiers found Venetian wines stronger than what they were used to. They began asking tavern hosts to spritzen, to “splash”, their wine with a bit of water. That small adjustment eventually evolved into the Spritz we know today: a bitter liqueur lifted with Prosecco and topped with soda.

Today, the Spritz is the cornerstone of Italian aperitivo culture: light, social, and easy to enjoy. The word aperitivo comes from the Latin aperire, meaning “to open,” referring to its purpose: to open the appetite, open the evening, and mark the gentle transition from day to night.

Elevate Your Aperitivo with Doladira

Doladira is a rhubarb-forward aperitivo crafted with plum, gentian, elderflower, and rosemary. Fresh, herbaceous, and smooth, it works well over ice or mixed into cocktails. Naturally low in sugar, it offers a cleaner profile than many traditional aperitivi, allowing its alpine botanicals and berry notes to stand out.

The name Doladira references both the Dolomites of Northeast Italy, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their striking natural beauty, and Enrosadira, the soft, rose-toned light that washes over those peaks at sunset.

Producer: Doladira

Vinification/Ageing: It derives its best-in-class taste from natural alpine ingredients. Plum, gentian, elderflower, pine, and subtle notes of rosemary unite to create the perfect balance of bitterness, acidity, herbaceousness, and salinity. Its vibrant pink color comes naturally from black carrot and rhubarb, avoiding artificial additives. Doladira uses no added sugar and contains 60% less sugar than other leading aperitivi.

Alcohol: 22%
